The deformation effect and time-reversal violation in neutron resonances

We describe how the deformation effect in nuclear spin aligned can be used to identify small d-wave admixtures in predominantly s-wave resonances. Using standard angular momentum penetrabilities, we estimate deformation effect cross sections for resonances below 500 eV. If d-wave admixtures are identified in a number of s-wave resonances, then a test for a parity-conserving, time-reversal violating term in the neutron-nucleus forward scattering amplitude is possible.
