AbstractThe present study was designed to determine if risking monetary loss for conforming behavior may be a condition in which sex differences either exist or fail to occur. It was hypothesized that with increasing risk of punishment sex differences in conformity would disappear. The results did not support the hypothesis. The interaction between subject sex, punishment risk, and group pressure was nonsignificant. More specifically, the interaction between subject sex and group pressure remained the same with increasing punishment risk. The findings are discussed in light of available evidence regarding sex differences in social influence.
