AbstractThis article considers the educational problems as South Africa enters a new phase, and looks at how educational resources could be used to optimum effect. The use of educational technology is considered, to see how it can promote effective learning for students, teachers and the total community.Countless township schools resemble the ruins of Jericho as a self‐destructive, silent war against ‘the system’ rages on ... schools have been stripped bare by squatters and even pupils, in full view of the community. Roofs, doors, windows, electrical appliances and even toilet bowls and basins have been ripped out of schools . . . ‘This is rapidly becoming a bad culture that we, unfortunately, will take into the new South Africa’ said a teacher1.
