A new enantiocontrolled synthesis of L-erythro- and D-threo-sphingosines has been established starting from (R,R)- and meso-1,2-divinylethylene glycols via the anomalous version of the Katsukiâ Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation reaction as the key step.
