dc.description Barium Titanate nanoparticles were synthesized by a novel dry milling process. The powders were characterized by XRD, Laser Raman Spectroscopy, SEM and EDX techniques. The Laser Raman spectral data corroborated well with the inferences from XRD patterns. The effects of microwave and conventional sintering at 10000C on the various properties of Barium Titanate nanoparticles were compared. The average size of microwave sintered sample was about 50 nm lesser than sample sintered by conventional technique. LCZ meter was used to study the dielectric properties. Microwave sintered Barium Titanate showed a 16 % increase in the relative dielectric constant value at the lowest applied frequency of 100 kHz which was attributed to the enhanced tetragonality of the microwave sintered nanoparticles. Microwave sintered compacts showed relatively lower hysteresis loss, higher polarization maximum values which were attributed to the minimized grain growth during microwave sintering. The microwave processing consumed 1/6th of the energy consumed during the conventional processing, thus proving its higher energy efficiency without compromising the dielectric properties of Barium Titanate nanoparticles.
