Acoustic scattering allows the authors to obtain the values of parameters which characterize the solid layers of a plane structure composed of three layers: a first plastic elastic layer, a thin water layer and a second aluminium elastic layer. The authors use the 'short-pulse MIR' (method of isolation of resonances) to obtain the scattered spectra and resonance spectra at normal and oblique incidence. It is shown how to determine phase velocities of the longitudinal and shear waves, and the thicknesses and the densities of the solid layers.
