The circumstances in third-world countries are such that in the teaching of physics special emphasis has to be placed on practicality, flexibility, and broadness. This article describes the incorporation of these considerations into an Applied Geophysics MSc programme in Nigeria. Further, it presents some of the problems encountered during the first years of operation of the programme.
