Аннотация:
An exact derivation of the upper bound of the energy emitted as gravitational radiation is given for a prolate domain wall or string collapsing with the speed of light toward a black hole, under the assumption that cosmic censorship is valid. Estimates of the maximum deformation from spherical shape for a black hole to be formed are also derived.
