It is difficult to predict the multilayer thickness adsorbed on to the surface of unfilled pores of mesoporous samples. Also, the calculated BET area may be unreliable for such samples. A knowledge of the multilayer thickness is necessary if the size distribution of the actual pores is to be calculated (as opposed to that of the Kelvin radius). A self-consistent method is proposed here, by which both the multilayer thickness and the pore surface area can be calculated from a knowledge of the size distribution of the Kelvin radii. The use of this method enables both the pore surface area and the final pore size distribution to be determined with greater confidence than has been possible previously. |
