An alternative path to the Kruskal extension of the Schwarzschild metric

The authors show how it is relatively straightforward to deduce the Kruskal line element directly from the vacuum field equations, thereby avoiding the conventional approach which sets out from the analytic continuation of the Schwarzchild metric.
