Anomaly and singular continuous spectrum in a one-dimensional incommensurate system

The authors study a tight-binding model given by Psi <sub>n+1</sub>+ Psi <sub>n-1</sub>+V cos(2 pi Qn+ theta ) Psi <sub>n</sub>=E Psi <sub>n</sub>, where Q is a Liouville number. It is demonstrated that all eigenstates are critical with singular continuous spectra for all values of V. These critical states appear to be composed of 'connected extended states'. They also find a band-centre anomaly: the resistance of the band centre displays coupled oscillations and is much larger than that of other states.
