Two-electron detachment and excitation processes in Cl<sup>-</sup>-He, Ne collisions: a reinvestigation of doubly excited autodetaching Cl<sup>-</sup> states

Energy spectra of 5-20 eV electrons from 1-25 keV Cl<sup>-</sup>-He, Ne and Cl-He, Ne collisions have been measured. The electron spectra show that only one doubly excited autodetaching Cl<sup>-</sup> state is formed. Some of the electron peaks previously assigned to doubly excited Cl<sup>-</sup> states are shown to originate from the decay of neutral Cl states with the configurations 3s3p<sup>5</sup>nl or 3s<sup>2</sup>3p<sup>3</sup>nln'l'.
