New data on the electron-impact excitation of metastable He(23,1S) states in the 57-61 eV energy region are presented. Experimental differential cross sections for metastable formation were measured with high energy ( approximately 0.08 eV) and angular ( approximately 0.1 degrees ) resolution by means of a metastable spectroscopy technique. The resonance-like structure observed is classified as related both to autoionizing and autodetaching states using the density functional theory method.
