We study the effects of atomic detuning in a composite system consisting of a degenerate optical parametric oscillator and a set of N homogeneously broadened two-level atoms. The stability regions and the optical spectra of this composite system are investigated as a function of atomic detuning and other parameters. Near the lower turning point of the bistable curve, the unsqueezed field quadrature couples into the squeezed field quadrature through the atomic detuning.
