Examines dielectronic recombination through the forbidden levels which are not usually considered. The rate of this process is of the same order of magnitude as that of photo-recombination. The process is of importance for a low density plasma with a rather low electron temperature and high degree of ionisation (for example: H II regions and planetary nebulae). Detailed calculations are made for O II.
