The photoionisation of multi-electron atoms with non-zero angular momenta is discussed in terms of the electric dipole approximation for non-relativistic photoelectrons. It is shown that at high photoelectron energy, k2>>1, the main asymptotic term of the cross section corresponds to an outgoing p wave independent of the initial electron angular momentum, while the momenta of the initial atom and residual ion are the same. The photoionisation amplitude, excluding parity-forbidden cases, depends on k in the same way as the amplitude for photoionisation of 1s hydrogen, AH. The selection rules obtained show that the line in the photoelectron spectrum due to the two-electron transition may be of even higher intensity than the one-electron line.
