A suggestion by Farago (1980) that longitudinally polarised electrons might be produced by scattering of electrons by optically active molecules has been investigated. Although the process analogous to that producing optical activity produces negligible cross sections in a single scattering event, it is suggested that a process in which spin-orbit interaction and molecular asymmetry are present might lead to the desired result.
