The angular distributions of photoelectrons resulting from six- and seven-photon ionisation (h(cross) omega =2.34 eV) of xenon have been investigated. They show pronounced structure. The results indicate that the seven-photon transition cannot simply be explained by a six-photon ionisation process followed by a continuum-continuum transition.
