Accurate measurements of total gamma-ray cross sections are made for Pd at 109.78 and 130.52 keV, in Pt at 109.78 keV and in tungsten-steel alloy (W=23%, Co=11%, C=0.77%, Cr=4.25% V=1.6% and Fe=59.33%) at 276.4, 302.86, 356.04 and 383.86 keV. A transmission experiment is conducted using a good geometry set-up. Measurements are taken in order to account correctly for the small angle scattering included. A hyper-pure germanium (HPGe) detector is used to reduce the effect of interfering radiations and background on the photopeak areas. The cross sections are measured with an accuracy of approximately 1%. The results are in good agreement with the available theoretical and semi-experimental data.
