Autoionizing even levels in the mercury arc spectrum

Thirty previously unclassified emission lines all broadened by autoionization, have been observed in the Hg I spectrum. Half of these have been assigned to transitions involving 5d<sup>9</sup>6s<sup>2</sup>7s <sup>3</sup>D<sub>2</sub>, <sup>3</sup>D<sub>3</sub> and 5d<sup>10</sup>6p<sup>2</sup> <sup>3</sup>P<sub>2</sub>' as upper levels. Approximate Fano parameters are given for eight of the lines. It is suggested that the position of the 5d<sup>9</sup>6s<sup>2</sup>6p <sup>3</sup>D<sub>3</sub><sup>0</sup> level be revised, and a tentative identification is made of 5d<sup>9</sup>6s<sup>2</sup>6p <sup>1</sup>F<sub>3</sub><sup>0</sup>.
