The influence of the dielectric environment on tunnel conduction in discontinuous metal films and cermets is evaluated in detail. It is shown as a result that earlier theoretical estimations of the activation energy for conduction are seriously in error: the new estimates are several times the experimental values. In order to obtain better quantitative agreement with experiment, account is taken of the spread in particle size and separation with a specimen. |
