High-temperature fluorescence studies of Dy<sup>3+</sup>:CaF<sub>2</sub> using Ar<sup>+</sup> and N<sub>2</sub> lasers

The F-level (<sup>4</sup>I<sub>15</sub>2/) of Dy<sup>3+</sup>:CaF<sub>2</sub> is found to fluoresce for temperatures greater than 300K. The decay times indicate an overlap of the tetragonal and the cubic centres of Dy<sup>3+</sup> and approximate G-level positions are obtained for both the centres.
