The method of Katz and Rice (1973) for calculating the electronic density of states in a dense fluid is used to obtain the density of states for a one-dimensional system, so that the results may be compared with the exact computer simulations. Previous calculations of the authors for a pair site theory (1979) are also compared with these results of Katz and Rice. Similar difficulties with the computations are experienced in one dimension as in three dimensions, although agreement with simulations is better than results previously obtained from the pair site approximations.
