Electron paramagnetic resonance of Ti<sup>2+</sup> in zinc-fired ZnSe

The EPR spectrum of Ti<sup>2+</sup> in ZnSe has been observed after firing the crystals in molten zinc. The spectrum consists of sharp double-quantum lines superimposed on broader single-quantum signals, and shows isotropic hyperfine structure due to <sup>47</sup>Ti and <sup>49</sup>Ti and anisotropic superhyperfine structure due to <sup>77</sup>Se. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters are determined. The g-value and the <sup>77</sup>Se hyperfine constants show that there is a large covalent contribution to the selenium-titanium bond.
