Indirect detection of cooling of antiferromagnetic iron carbonate by adiabatic magnetisation

On CO<sub>3</sub>Fe natural single crystals, magnetisation and Faraday rotation experiments have been performed in high magnetic field produced either in the transient or in the continuous regime. By comparison between the pulsed field behaviour and the DC field evidence is shown of a strong difference which is attributed to a crystal cooling, Delta T, during the pulse magnetisation process. Three approaches to the estimate of Delta T are presented, they agree with Delta T being of the order of -10K.
