dc.description The chemical shifts of the K absorption discontinuity of copper have been studied in the ternary chalcopyrite compounds CuMS<sub>2</sub> (M=Al,Ga,In,Tl). It is observed that there exists a linear relationship between the chemical shift Delta E and the band gap E<sub>g</sub> in the systems. This relationship has been used to estimate the band gap in the compound CuTlS<sub>2</sub>, which comes out to be about 1.39 eV.
