Over 900 complete analyses from both metallic and oxide systems have been examined statistically to investigate the reliability of quantitative electron-probe microanalysis. Details of the general experimental procedures adopted and the forms of fluorescence and absorption correction used are given. The majority of the systems examined were multicomponent ones and this necessitated the use of a `matrix method of manual calculation', which is described. |
