Natural barite (BaSO4) crystals have been cleaved along (110) and (001) cleavages and etched in H2SO4 and KOH. Rows of equally spaced pits are observed on both the cleavage faces. By etching matched cleavage faces correspondence has been established for intersecting grain boundaries. Correspondence has also been established on the two sides of a thin flake 1000 μm thick. For all the intersecting grain boundaries observed, the condition na=nb+nc is satisfied, na, nb and nc being the numbers of dislocations per micrometre in the three branches.
