The absorption coefficient of propane has been measured using a low-power CO2 laser at a variety of wavenumbers over the range 940-1081 cm-1. At 944 cm-1 the absorption coefficient of propane was found to vary linearly with pressure, its value being 8.5*10-5 cm-1 Torr-1. This coefficient was essentially unaltered by adding nitrogen to propane to produce an atmospheric mixture.
