In spite of the fact that capillary-type liquid metal ion sources (LMIS) were in use long before the so-called 'needle' configuration was discovered, surprisingly few systematic measurements exist on their basic characteristics. This Letter is a short study of some of these characteristics, namely, current-voltage curves and ion beam energy spreads with an indium-filled capillary; comparisons are made with needle-type LMIS. |
