dc.description Amorphous alloys with composition Nd100-xMx where M=Co or Fe and 25<or=x<or=75 were prepared by melt-spinning. AC and DC susceptibility measurements show that most of the Nd-Co alloys have magnetic ordering temperatures below room temperature while the Nd-Fe alloys have magnetic ordering temperatures around 480K. The coercivities at 4.2K in Nd-Co vary from 1.8 kOe in Nd50Co50 to 6 kOe in Nd60Co40. The Nd-Fe alloys show a maximum in coercivity which is a function of temperature. A value of about 10 kOe is observed for Nd65Fe35 at about 230K. DSC studies show that Nd-Co and Nd-Fe alloys have largely different crystallisation temperatures approximately 200 degrees C and 500 degrees C respectively. The coercivity is found to be strongly dependent on crystallisation.
