dc.description A new type of waveguide composed of a cylindrical quantum well is suggested. The effects of the response of the electron gas to a longitudinal electric field have been taken into consideration. Calculations of the transverse magnetic modes TM<sub>0</sub> show that the propagation constants are different from those of dielectric waveguides, and the phase and group velocities are higher than those of the dielectric waveguide.
