| dc.description | A differential equation for the arc shape is proposed which accounts for three factors which influence the column motion: (i) magnetic fields, (ii) gas flows and (iii) asymmetrical Joule heating. The physical conditions required for the validity of the equation are outlined. The equation is given in a vector form suitable for treating cases with arbitrary field and discharge geometries. |
