Capacitor bank discharges provide multi-megamp current pulses for flier plate propulsion. A simple multipoint metal-to-metal crowbar switch, operated at current maximum by short exploding foils in series with the main discharge circuit, is described. The foil explosion time is controlled by choice of the cross-sectional area of the aluminium foils, and the time from foil explosion to switch contact is 3 mu s.
