In a previous paper (see ibid., vol.10, no.6, p.627 (1977)) the author presented a comparison of the viscosity balance and Preston tube methods of skin friction measurement. Improvements to the wind tunnel have since been carried out: vibration has been reduced; and aerodynamic controls have been installed to eliminate speed drift and to reduce the long starting time at low speed. A two-beam meter has been introduced. It is found that the measurements agree well with the Prandtl-Schlichting law; and that the improved accuracy has led to better agreement between the viscosity balance and Preston tubes results.
