A resistor-heated all-metal ultrahigh-vacuum furnace used for argon extraction in 40Ar-39Ar dating is described. Compared to conventional extraction systems, the main improvements of the new furnace are: low amounts of argon released in blank runs, ease of maintenance, and reduced health hazard during experiments with radioactive samples.
