A device capable of measuring the local convective heat transfer from a solid surface to an airstream is described. It has a novel feature in that it can operate in transient three-dimensional flow conditions and is therefore particularly suitable for measuring heat loss from most modern buildings having a relatively smooth surface. Its performance has been found satisfactory when comparing the results with those derived from the heat transfer equations for a flat plate.
