A fully demountable liquid helium cryostat is described which has been constructed for measuring the optical constants of solids in the far infrared at low temperatures by dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopy. A specimen mount which has been used with the cryostat to measure the amplitude and phase reflection spectra of a crystal of KCl in the far infrared in the temperature range 7-300K is also described.
