A microprocessor-based MTF lens evaluation system involving direct measurement of the IR line spread function is described. The microprocessor controls the instrument during the signal location and data acquisition phases and in addition carries out the data processing. The relative merits of different methods of evaluating the inverse Fourier transform are discussed. Results obtained with both finite conjugate and afocal thermal imaging lenses are presented.
