dc.description A two-dimensional force transducer is described which is capable of measuring the magnitude, direction and position of a force acting in the plane of the transducer. The basic sensing method is by strain gauge bridges, the outputs of which are amplified and fed to a microcomputer for calculation of the force characteristics. A working model has confirmed by feasibility of the transducer. The latter has been designed to measure quasi-static forces and it has been shown experimentally to do this relatively well. Further research work is required to improved the accuracy of the device and its capability of measuring dynamic forces.
