Two forms of a probe device which rely on the detection of potential changes in an electrophoretic ceramic deposition system are described. The method is capable of monitoring deposit thicknesses with a coefficient of variation of better than 1% on 5 mm thicknesses. Results are discussed for deposits obtained from an alumina-ethanol suspension.
