dc.description A low-cost microprocessor-based instrument for selective excitation in NMR imaging has been developed. The system is based upon a dual-channel single-sideband modulator (SSBM) and digital waveform synthesiser. The chosen structure makes the instrument capable of generating radio frequency pulse envelopes of arbitrary complexity. It also enables compensation of performance limitations associated with practical SSBMs, to achieve outstanding image spectrum suppression and harmonic distortion levels.
