dc.description A method of measuring the concentration of suspended solids in sewage/water effluents has been developed. The system is based on monitoring the variable optical pathlength using an infrared source. Laboratory tests with suspended solid concentrations of up to 5000 mg 1-1 have been carried out. The advantages of this system over existing instruments are: it overcomes the problem of fouling; and increased measurement range for solids.
