To understand the reason for the possible losses of the fusion products, it is necessary to obtain experimental information on their energy distribution function during slowdown. The method proposed in the present paper is based on the detection of gamma rays produced by nuclear reactions between decelerating alpha particles and nuclei already present in the plasma. The feasibility of this diagnostic for both low and high background radiation fields is considered
