Quite simple dynamical systems can display surprisingly complicated behaviour. An example of such a system is a circuit containing a diode and a coil (inductor). This is discussed, and is compared with the logistic map. The map is described in detail. It is shown how studying these maps throws light on the difficulties of long-range weather forecasting. |
