Most Thomson scattering data is analyzed to obtain the electron temperature by finding the best fit to a straight line on a log-linear plot of intensity versus the square of the wavelength shift. The author points the error inherent in the linearization of the regression problem and illustrates the magnitude of the effect with typical Thomson scattering data from the ISX-B Tokamak.
