A previous article (1983) briefly described the BNFL Radiation Mortality Study and gave references to other papers in which the aims of the study and the methods used in its conduct have been more fully reported. The main purpose of the article was to provide comparisons of mortality among the male workforce at Sellafield to the end of 1975, distinguishing between three employee categories and between radiation and non-radiation workers. Those results were based on data assembled at May 1982. The present note, based on data available in February 1983 extends the comparison, using mortality information to the end of 1980, thereby increasing the number of deaths contributing to the assessment by nearly 50%, i. e. to a total of 1603 in the same population of approximately 11,500 male workers.
