An icosahedral phase is obtained in rapidly cooled Al<sub>8.8</sub>Fe<sub>3.7</sub>Ce alloy. The authors do not find the decagonal phase found in samples of this alloy prepared by conventional metallurgical methods. Adding the rare earth Ce to the Al-Fe system appears to stabilise the icosahedral phase, which is not usually present in this system.
