General expansions for a geometrical plane wave parametrization scheme for the Fermi surfaces of BCC, FCC, and HCP metals

In a previous paper a general formalism for the determination of a parametric expression for the Fermi surface of a metal has been described (see abstr. A16088 of 1972). The method of that paper has now been applied to the determination of symmetry adapted expansions, using plane wave type expansions similar in nature to that for f.c.c. metals used previously by Roaf (1962) for Cu, Ag, and Au. The authors have developed similar formulae for b.c.c. and h.c.p. metals and the general forms of the expansions are tabulated for all three structures, not only for expansions about Gamma but also for expansions about other special points of symmetry in the Brillouin zone. General expressions for these symmetrized expansions are tabulated. Results of the application of this method to certain sheets of the Fermi surfaces of group VA and group VIA metals are presented and some advantages and disadvantages of this particular parametrization scheme are discussed.
