Measurements of Al27 Knight shift, spin-lattice relaxation time line intensity and transient spin echo have been made on five alloys of beta -AlNi in the composition range 60.5 at.% Ni to 58.3 at.% Ni. For stoichiometric composition predominantly electron conduction has been assumed and an electron effective mass of (1.3+or-0.1) m has been calculated from the Knight shift and spin-lattice relaxation time measurements. The line intensity data give a nuclear 'wipeout' number for the satellite transitions of 104+or-10 for small departures from stoichiometry. This has been discussed in terms of the screening charge oscillations around those Ni atoms in excess of the stoichiometric composition.
